Lost passport on a Thai beach, driving existential panic - read about that here

Memories of a recent press trip from Djerba to the desert with @discover_tunisia_official.

Djerba island is historic and quirky in equal measure with the funky street art of Djerbahood, Africa’s oldest synagogue abd some unexpectedly smiling crocodiles within a couple of miles each other.

Drive 90 minutes inland and you’re on the edge of the Sahara with trogodolyte homes built direct into the hillside, as they have been for a couple of millennia. If it looks a bit familiar, it’s likely because these Amazigh sites were used as Luke Skywalker’s homestead in Star Wars!

Excited to be writing about this experience for @independenttravel - watch this space 🇹🇳✍🏼

Northumberland - England’s northernmost county - will always be my favourite region. The history, coastline and castles literally everywhere tick all my boxes!

Less known is just how damn good the food and drink is - from stotties to seafood with a superb beer and emerging spirits scene - visit @northumberlandfoodanddrink to find more…

Featuring:

🥃 @adgefrin - Northumberland’s finest whiskey (and Anglo-Saxon experience)
🍔 @baliffgatehotel - The best burger in the North (not to mention the view)
👩🏼‍🍳 @thetempus_charltonhall - Fine dining in Alice In Wonderland inspired decor
🎣 @beachhouseseahouses - The freshest seafood you’ll ever find
🥩 @thehighlanderponteland - Stottie and soup - like a warm hug on a winter morning
🍰 @runningfoxcafe - The afternoon tea of your dreams
🍻 @twicebrewedinn - The perfect post @visithadrianswall Hadrian’s Wall hike pie and pint

Add all of these to your roadtrip itinerary to discover the heart of this finest of counties. Thanks to @visitnorthumberland for showing me this side of Northumberland.

If you’re going to call yourself the “Dinosaur capital of the world”, you really need to commit to it.

And goodness, does Drumheller, Alberta do that!

It’s home to the Royal Tyrrell Museum with 40+ full dinosaur skeletons and somewhere in the region of 160,000 fossils. It can also be enjoyably silly, as we found out.

After a week in the Rockies, this was a very different side to Alberta but one that hits that sweet spot of educational, enjoyable and just a little bit surreal!

When everyone says “you have to do xx” I’m instinctively cynical. So many must dos around the world have become tourist trap hell holes, stripped of any charm.

I honestly worried Moraine Lake might fall into that category.

Until we hiked Larch Valley.

As autumn hikes go, you’re simply not doing better - incredibly you lose sight of the lake after 45 minutes and the view just gets better - meadows, mountains, ravens and all the colours you expect from the season.

So yep, believing the hype is occasionally justified 🥾🇨🇦🗻

Very chuffed to have made the shortlist for @assoc.nationaltouristoffices for Travel Writer of The Year 2026. Some seriously stellar names to be sitting alongside.

Thanks to @independenttravel and @sophie__dickinson__ for the commissions to allow me to share these stories on Northern Tunisia and Spain’s oasis, Elche - @visitelche @discover_tunisia_official

Any roadtrip that gets described as being the most beautiful on Earth is setting a bloody high standard.

But across Banff, Jasper and Yoho National Parks (with a few diversions along the way), it might just be justified. Hiking, white water, dark skies and the odd wolfdog are all part of a Rockies roadtrip, which is legitimately like no other on the planet! 🐺🛶✨🗻🫎🥾🇨🇦

A strong candidate for simultaneously Europe’s least known but most intriguing country - welcome to Albania 🇦🇱

Despite bearing the hallmarks of multiple civilisations - Greek, Roman, Ottoman - Albania has a culture, cuisine and landscape that’s unique to anywhere I’ve travelled.

Butrint matches any ruins in Italy or Greece, Berat and Gjirokaster are as fine a medieval town as you’ll find anywhere in Europe and Tirana’s food and cocktail scene are spectacularly impressive.

Not a bad outcome for a last minute summer roadtrip!

Happy birthday America…that’s quite the milestone!

As a journalist, it remains home to some exceptional storytellers and many of the most compelling destinations on Earth. As a traveler, it’s home to a large number of people I’m privileged to call friends.

Some great memories here - looking forward to many more!
